Monthly Meetings

The monthly meeting is held on the Second Thursday of every month at 10.00am in the Methodist Church Hall, Holmes Chapel, CW4 7AR (Except July & August).

Coffee and biscuits are served, following announcements concerning u3a business, invited Speakers give a talk.

David Mitchell - Town Crier of Chester, the only place in Britain to have retained the tradition of regular midday proclamations at a fixed place and time. David has made many appearances on TV and radio, and he was also the Town Crier in the films 'Moll Flanders' and '24 Hour Party People' with Steve Coogan. He has written a book called The Word on the Street.

Anna Alexander is a member of the Gateacre Society and she is a guide at Speke Hall where she conducts Victorian and Tudor tours. Her talk will guide you through the house and grounds as if you were on one of her tours. She will show photographs of many of the rooms in the hall and will describe the house and its history from the Tudor period through to the Victorian era. The focus of the talk will be the people who lived in the house - the Norris, Watt and Leyland families - and the servants who looked after them.
