Walk Description: A local walk on SUNDAY 27 September following some of the proposed route of the controversial "Peak Cluster" CO2 pipeline*
Walk Route: We will meet at Bidlea Diary on Twemlow Lane (please car share if possible and park in the Overflow car park) at 10.30 for a 10.45 am start. The plan is to walk along some of the proposed route along the beautiful Dane valley to Cranage, where it is proposed to locate an "Above Ground Installation"
At the end of the walk, barbecue food will be on sale at 1pm at Bidlea dairy - about £5 for a burger apparently - or you may prefer to buy one of Bidlea's delicious ice-creams or coffee and cake. A separate group will be travelling along the route from Gawsworth by tractor or bicycle and also finishing at Bidlea Dairy.
This is not one of ours usual u3a walks - all are welcome - but if people are not u3a members, they are still welcome to walk and be involved. To be covered by u3a insurance please email me their name, address, mobile no and an emergency telephone number - to: prcomms@holmeschapelu3a.org.uk.
U3a members may apply to join the walk on the website in the usual way to let me know you are coming.
Closing date for applications will be 23 September - so that I can advise of possible numbers for catering purposes.
*The "Peak Cluster" scheme is a "Carbon Capture" project to which £28.6 million of our taxpayers' money has been promised. It is being put forward on behalf of four big cement manufacturers - Tarmac, Breedon, Holcim and Buxton Lime and plans to dig the pipeline through the Cheshire countryside to bring compressed CO2 from the cement factories near Buxton to dispose of it under the North Sea by the Wirral. A second round of consultation is expected to take place this autumn.
