Visit to Macclefield Waste Water Treatment Works; 13 May 2026
Following on from the very full presentation we had last year from United Utilities I have now managed to arrange a visit to a waste treatment works. This will give members the opportunity to tour a modern works and perhaps to ask the questions for which there was no time last year.
The visit is limited to 20 members and to facilitate lift-sharing I would like to circulate attendees' locations and contact details (phone number and email).

Emma Birch, our UU contact and the site team have done a risk assessment and sent the following information about the visit:
- members should wear sturdy footwear/wellingtons and outdoor clothing suitable for weather and terrain.
- UU will provide any other PPE (hard hat, hi-viz vest, eye protection) which must be worn for the duration of the visit.
- members must stay on route and follow instructions of UU employees.
- I am required to ensure that all attendees are sufficiently fit and well to undertake the visit which will include:
- a flight of 24 steps to reach the office and toilets,
- about 15 mins walk from the office to the inlet point and a further 60 mins of walking/standing around the site,
- Members must ensure they have taken or have with them any necessary medication.
