IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THE DETAIL ABOUT LUNCH. IF THE WEATHER IS FORECAST TO BE VERY WARM PLEASE BRING ADEQUATE DRINK AND HEADGEAR.
The Walk: This fairly easy varied 5-mile walk starts and finishes at The Greyhound, Cow Lane, Ashley WA16 0QR. The pub is 16 miles, 25 - 30 minutes from Holmes Chapel, and there is ample parking space.
Leaving the pub we walk through part of the village before turning north to cross the M56 and continue past Ashley Hall (16th century). We soon head towards the River Bollin on a permitted path, passing Ashley Mill. Following the River we leave and re-join it several times, interspersed with woodland. Finally leaving the River, we head towards Ryecroft Farm, then cross the M56, following it along a wooded path before dropping away towards Birkin Farm. After the Farm we have a short road walk , then a path towards a cricket pavillion, finally re-joining the village road back to the pub.
Terrain: Tracks, fields, woodland and minor roads with no stiles. Some inclines. Can be muddy in places! Good boots strongly recommended.
Meet and Start: Meet at 09:45am at the pub for walk to start at 10:00am. I will meet everyone at the pub.
Break: Usual short break part way round. Do bring a snack and a drink.
Lunch: I have provisionally booked a table for 6 for 13:00pm.
Please let me know by Monday 10th August latest whether or not if you are eating at the pub. There is no need to pre-order unless there are 10 or more eating.
