Estimated walk time: 3 hours..
Distance:  6.5 miles.
Terrain: Quiet lanes, tracks, field paths, woodland, farms. Some inclines.
Can be muddy, in places!
Stiles: Several.
Description: The Cheshire Plain meets the Peak District here, as a corrugated landscape of wooded dingles, sinuous ridges and knolls, dappled with ponds and dotted with farmhouses.
The Church is worth a visit before we start walking. With the Old Hall in view, we will leave Church Lane to cross the dam of the lower lake, picking up a path which takes us to the main road. Crossing to an access road, we enter a fenced path, then a dirt track and a further fenced path, reaching a lane, which we follow for 1km.. At Walkersheath Farm we pick up a track leading into Heskey Wood, continuing on the track and eventually reaching Crabtree Moss Farm. Leaving the Farm we enter a lane but soon turn off onto a bridleway alongside Tidnock Wood. (Ahead is the communications mast at Sutton Common, the first high ridge of the Peak District, and to the right are Bosley Cloud and Mow Cop). Thereafter we pass through the yard at Great Tidnock Farm before reaching the main road, crossing into Shellow Lane. After 1km at a junction we enter fields and pastures, heading due north, and the tower of Gawsworth Church will come into view, beckoning us back to the village.
