Group Details For Long Walk Gp. 2 - 12th March - Gawsworth & Sutton

The walk starts from Gawsworth Church and takes us to Danes Moss Nature Reserve, Macclesfield Canal, The Hollins, Sutton village, Sutton Reservoir and back to Gawsworth. The walk is 8.8 miles long with a total elevation of 514 ft. We have not arranged a pub lunch, so please bring a packed lunch. 

Walk Description: From the church we take field paths and road to reach Danes Moss Nature Reserve where we take paths and board walks to cross the Reserve and eventually meet the canal. We leave the canal with a short climb up to The Hollins where we walk along the ridge taking in some splendid views. We then descend into the country village of Sutton. Walk through the village and across field paths to reach Sutton Reservoir. We cross the A523 and the canal and then there is little road walking and fields back to Gawsworth.

Meeting Point: Holmes Chapel Community Centre car park for car sharing at 09.00 or the avenue by Gawsworth Church if you prefer to go straight to the walk start.

Travel time from Holmes Chapel to the walk start is approx. 22 minutes (11 miles)
Please let the group leader know if you plan to travel direct to the walk start or meet at HCCC so she knows where to expect you. I will not be going to the Community Centre.

Walk start time :  09.45 am

Estimated walk time: Approx 4 hours (plus time for breaks). We plan to have a coffee stop and a lunch stop and aim to finish walking 14.30/ 15.00

Terrain: Field paths, tow path which is generally good, some road walking. One short climb. Muddy in places. 

Stiles: Four

Equipment: Walking boots are essential and a waterproof coat. Walking poles recommended. 
Please bring sufficient drinks and food.
